A proper Sunday

I have a big confession.  I've not been out in the garden since I last blogged about it.  I suppose all the rain hasn't helped and we've made sure the hedge and grass is cut but for the rest of the garden the weeds have overgrown and it's generally very miserable.

I had enough today I went out and decided to just uproot everything in the hope we can start again.  Plus the landlord had shocking taste in some of the plants that are among the weeds.  I started and then felt the task was too big so temporarily gave up until Mark came to help.  We blasted through a lot of it and there is still lots more to do but it's great that we have made a start.

I have absolutely no idea what we do now to be honest.  Any gardening experts out there please let me know!

As for the rest of the day, Mark played golf and I went swimming which felt like a proper start to the day.  After this manual task that sent the baby wild with kicks I had a relaxing bath.  We currently have chicken roasting in the oven and Mark is making baked cauliflower with cheese yum! I'm sure I'll be asleep by 8....

Recently

I've not been doing much recently, just counting down the days until scan day.  I'm sure there will be another countdown starting soon for the big "boy or girl" scan.  It's amazing how you know how many weeks gone you are I never used to even know what day of the week and yet now it's "11+2", "12+4" etc to the question how far are you gone (12+6 today for anyone wondering!)

I think I'm going to keep a bump diary, we've bought a scrap book to put all the pictures in it will be fun to see how much I've grown.  A few people have said I'm showing but under clothes I don't think you can tell, I've always had a bit of a belly I just don't think anyone's noticed before :) what do you think?

We've spent weekends plodding about we visited my parents a couple of weeks back and went around a nice garden and I also got to see some knitwear my Mum's working on - so cute it even inspired me to pick up the knitting needles again!

We've got some interesting things lined up soon so I should get my blogging hat back on!  This weekend the other half is off to a stag do (expect some plodding around the garden pics from me) then we're off to a wedding, thinking about a food/beer festival, going to sunny Menorca for a week and then I'm going to be bridesmaid for one of my best friends.  Let the busyness commence it only makes the countdowns go faster.

Hopefully the bridesmaid dress will be ok for me when I'm 20 weeks pregnant!

Sunny times at Red Lion Lane

*Sighs* The grass was getting pretty long, weeds were everywhere and it rained and it rained for most of the last month.  I also had a tough trip with work on the horizon and so shut myself away for a bit.  Thankfully I went away for the work trip last week and came back to beautiful weather "Hello Summer!!".

This weekend we've thrown ourselves into the British summer.  We took two trips to the garden centre, sorting ourselves out with tools and a hosepipe and set about weeding.  It's a long garden so rather than get all overwhelmed we made it a challenge to tidy up the decking so we could sit and eat barbecued food in some sort of comfort.  And we didn't just have one barbecue oh no we had too, you never know when you're going to get this sunny period again!

Thanks for the good wishes in my last post, feeling much better now!  The weather certainly didn't help with the mood I was in and I found myself looking out to our unhappy garden watching the rain doing its best to stop me going out there.

Alas the sun is out and we're doing some bits and pieces in the garden, photos to come but for now I thought I would show you what we've been given.  Lots to do but some nice treats in there to keep us going!

Forde Abbey and gardens

After going to Beer we decided to head back home and see if we could stop off somewhere else on the way.  I suggested that if we were heading past Axminster that we could go to the River Cottage canteen and  enjoy the buzz that the day before had provided.  It was a totally silly suggestion as it was a Sunday and if that wasn't the reason it would be packed out, the fact that people had travelled to the event the day before and thought the exact same thing as me did.  

Instead we bought a couple of bottles of Stinger (we shared a bottle I work in road safety after all) and two amazingly chunky leek and potato pies and decided to head somewhere for a picnic.

We drove a bit further and then followed some signs to Forde Abbey and gardens in the hope it would provide a nice setting on such a beautiful day.  It was a pretty pricey decision but since we still had the rest of the day we figured we could spend a while there, do some reading and wander around as the photos show.
